As the British forces withdrew, the camp was handed over to the Malaysian Government, marking a transition in its historical journey.
The first unit of the 28th Commonwealth Infantry Brigade moved to Kem Terendak in late 1959, and by the mid-1960s, the camp was fully occupied. Construction activities continued until 1964, culminating in the completion of the Kem Terendak Hospital, showcasing the ongoing development and expansion of the military infrastructure.
