Seri Medan, a small town in the Batu Pahat District of Johor, Malaysia, holds historical significance for its past bauxite mining activities. Situated near Pekan Parit Sulong, Yong Peng, and Tongkang Pecah, it was once secluded due to its central location, away from major connecting roads.
Seri Medan is divided into areas like Parit Basri Laut, Parit Warijo, Parit Haji Ariff, and Parit Haji Yusof, connected by roads linking to nearby villages such as Parit Laman, Parit Jayus, Ayer Putih, and more.
The town served as a filming location for the movie 'Puteri Gunung Ledang,' shot in Bukit Inas, an area bordering Pekan Pt. Sulong.
Originally known as Ramunia, Seri Medan acquired its current name in 1920, recognized by the Sultan of Johor. Early bauxite mining was initiated by companies like Nanyo Kogyo Koshi (later Ishihara Sangyo) from Japan. These mining operations continued until 1967 and eventually transformed into the Johor Botanical Gardens we know today.
Explore the historical legacy of Seri Medan, once a hub for bauxite mining, now transformed into a part of Johor's botanical heritage. Discover its geographical divisions, historical film connections, and economic past that shaped its present identity.
