Kem Terendak, situated in Sungai Udang, Melaka, approximately 13 miles north of Bandar Melaka on the Melaka-Masjid Tanah road, holds a significant place in the history of the Malaysian Armed Forces. Originally built by the British military to house the headquarters of the 28 Commonwealth Infantry Brigade, the camp played a crucial role during its active years.
Constructed to accommodate the 28 Commonwealth Infantry Brigade, consisting of British, Australian, and New Zealand battalions, along with war equipment and services, Kem Terendak became a strategic military base. As the British forces withdrew, the camp was handed over to the Malaysian Government, marking a transition in its historical journey.
The first unit of the 28th Commonwealth Infantry Brigade moved to Kem Terendak in late 1959, and by the mid-1960s, the camp was fully occupied. Construction activities continued until 1964, culminating in the completion of the Kem Terendak Hospital, showcasing the ongoing development and expansion of the military infrastructure.
