Explore the historical significance of Kukup, a town that underwent prosperous development initiated by Singapore Arab Syed Mohamed bin Ahmed Alsagoff. Witnessing the establishment of government organizations, a bustling harbor, and port activities, Kukup became a pivotal point for cargo transportation between northern and southern destinations such as Singapore and Malacca.
Originally named Kukub, the town's name was changed to Kukup due to disagreements over its non-Malay origins. Rapid development ensued under the Constantinople Estate owned by Tuan Syed Mohamed Alsagoff, contributing to Kukup's stature as a significant district in Johor. However, the area was later incorporated into the Pontian District when the main road linking Pontian and Johor Bahru was completed in 1900, prompting the shift of government organizations to Pontian.
For transportation within the village, TransJohor public buses provide convenient links to Pontian Kechil, facilitating movement for locals and visitors exploring the area.
