Kuala Kubu Bharu (also spelled Kuala Kubu Baru, Kuala Kubu Bahru, or Kuala Kubu Baharu; abbreviated to KKB) stands as the district capital of Hulu Selangor, Malaysia, located 60 km north of Kuala Lumpur. This charming town holds a unique place in history, shaped by the Sungai Selangor dam break in 1883 and subsequent floods in 1926.
After the devastating floods, Kuala Kubu Bharu was reconstructed at a higher elevation, becoming arguably the first garden township in Asia. The town's planning, attributed to Charles Crompton Reade, the first government town planner of the British Federated Malay States (FMS) in 1925, showcases a thoughtful integration of nature and urban living.
Kuala Kubu Bharu preserves its historical identity through pre-war buildings, constructed mainly by locals. These structures not only stand as testaments to the resilience of the community but also offer a glimpse into the cultural and architectural designs of that era.
Immerse yourself in the town's unique charm with landmarks like the Guan Yin Gu Si Temple and Al-Hidayah Mosque, resilient structures that weathered the floods. Enjoy the lush greenery and well-planned gardens that make Kuala Kubu Bharu a haven for residents.
