Bukit Fraser, located on the Titiwangsa Ridge in Raub District, Pahang, is a picturesque hill resort just 100 km north of Kuala Lumpur. Initially established as a tin mining community in 1890, it transformed into a serene hill station in 1922, offering a cool escape from Malaysia's typical hot climate.
Known for its vast biodiversity, Bukit Fraser attracts nature enthusiasts with activities like hiking, cycling, golfing, archery, paddle boating, horseback riding, tennis, swimming, and squash. The town's architecture showcases a mock Tudor design, reflecting colonial influences.
With an altitude ranging from 320 m to 1,460 m above sea level, Fraser's Hill boasts a diverse landscape. The climate is tropical, offering a pleasant average temperature of 20°C. The area features virgin forests covering 92% of the land, contributing to its ecological significance.
Bukit Fraser hosts two primary schools: SK Bukit Fraser and SJK (T) Bukit Fraser. While the town faces challenges like a declining population and a digital divide, some individuals are drawn to its tranquility, moving from urban areas like Kuala Lumpur.
Accessible by car, taxi, motorcycle, and bicycle, Fraser's Hill is well-connected by roads like Lady Guillemard Road. However, public transportation, including bus services, remains a hope for residents. The area had a petrol station until 2001 but now relies on individuals selling petrol in bottles.
Despite its heritage charm, modern developments like Shahzan Inn and Fraser’s Silverpark Resort have been introduced, sparking debates over preserving the town's colonial aesthetics. Efforts by local associations led to the suspension of the proposed 15-storey Fraser’s Hill Resort and Spa.
