ASEAN Summit 2025: Road Closures & Traffic Diversions in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (From 26 October 2025)

NEWS

Written by Fazrina Fezili

Malaysia will take centre stage in the region as it hosts the 47th ASEAN Summit from 26 to 28 October 2025, in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
This prestigious international event will gather Southeast Asian leaders, ministers, and delegates making security and traffic management the top priorities throughout the summit period.

To ensure smooth traffic flow and safety, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) have announced staged road closures and temporary diversions across key highways and city roads in the Klang Valley.

Purpose of the Road Closures During the ASEAN Summit 2025

According to JSPT Bukit Aman, the temporary closures are implemented to facilitate official motorcades transporting ASEAN leaders and delegates between KLIA, Putrajaya, hotels, and summit venues in Kuala Lumpur.

These closures will not occur simultaneously. Instead, they will take place in stages typically lasting 30 to 45 minutes per session, depending on the movement of official convoys.

Road Closure Schedule (Key Dates)

  • 17–25 October 2025: Motorcade rehearsals and route testing will take place. Expect minor traffic delays even before the summit officially begins.
  • 26–28 October 2025: Full implementation of road closures and diversions during the official ASEAN Summit dates.
  • 17–29 October 2025: Traffic police personnel will be stationed at key junctions to control traffic and ensure security.

Travel tip:  If you’re heading to KLIA, Putrajaya, or Downtown Kuala Lumpur, plan your journey early or use public transport during the summit period.
