Johor allocates RM63.5 million to repair government rental homes and enhance public housing projects

PASIR GUDANG: The Johor government has allocated RM63.5 million for the repair of Public Housing Projects (PPR) and Government Rental Homes (RSK) throughout the state.
Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, Chairman of the State Housing and Local Government Committee, said this involves repairing roofs, applying new paint, and enhancing 13 PPRs and seven RSKs, accommodating 14,500 residents, scheduled to commence this year.
"For example, RSK Cendana here, which is about 36 years old, has 20 blocks with 1,500 housing units. The Chief Minister has announced an allocation of RM8 million for roof repairs and new paint, with other works involving a total cost of RM9.9 million," he said. He said this after officiating the Community Empowerment Program and Community Agricultural Endowment at RSK Taman Cendana Dua here today.
In Johor, he said, there are over 100 public flats, with most issues experienced at the management corporation (MC) level facing difficulties in collecting maintenance fees.
"This affects the committees appointed to handle issues such as elevator breakdowns, leaking roofs, clogged sewage systems, and so on. Ultimately, it becomes a government issue.
"Actually, according to existing policies, community or MC members use the collected monthly fees to cover maintenance costs and the like.
"I advise all public flat residents to cooperate with the appointed committees, because ultimately they themselves face difficulties when there is no allocation to repair damaged facilities," he said.
Meanwhile, Mohd Jafni also announced the approval of the proposed construction of PPR Larkin here.
